by farhadova

Khinalıg is an amazing high-mountain village in Azerbaijan, located at an altitude of about 2,200 meters above sea level in the Caucasus Mountains. It seems frozen in time: here, ancient stone and wooden houses blend harmoniously with the harsh yet captivating landscape.
The nature around Khinalıg amazes with its pristine beauty. In spring and summer, the valleys bloom with bright flowers, mountain rivers and streams mirror the sky, and the fresh air is filled with the scent of herbs. In autumn, the mountains are painted in fiery golden shades, creating the impression of being inside a living painting.
From the tops of nearby mountains, breathtaking panoramas open up: rolling ridges stretch to the horizon, and clouds glide over the slopes like soft blankets. In winter, Khinalıg turns into a snowy fairy tale: the peaks sparkle in the sunlight, and the silence of the mountains fills the soul with serenity.
Here, one feels the true harmony between humans and nature: the ancient traditions and peaceful rhythm of village life combine with the majestic beauty of the mountains. Khinalıg is a place where every breath fills you with energy, and every glance reveals new facets of Azerbaijan’s stunning nature.

By the way at the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan’s nomination, “The Cultural Landscape of the People of Khinalug and the ‘Migration Route’”, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List (2023).
